Crochet Checkered Mug Rug Pattern

With Color A,
Create a slip knot and CH 21. (20 chains and 1 turning chain.)

Rows 1-5

Row 1: Working in the second to last CH, SC 5, On 5th SC, change yarn color,
SC 5 and begin carrying yarn, On 5th SC, change yarn color,
SC 5, On 5th SC, change yarn color,
SC 5, CH 1, turn.

Rows 2-4: (SC 5, On 5th SC, change yarn color,
SC 5, On 5th SC, change yarn color,

Cut your yarn and leave a tail about 6″.

Take your darning needle to tuck in and hide the strings into the mug rug. 

Fringe Pieces

Choose one of your yarn colors you want to be the fringe. For this mug rug, I chose my green yarn.

Cut 40 fringe pieces that are 6″ long.

Assembling

Insert your crochet hook into one stitch on the shorter sides of the mug rug. Lay your yarn over your crochet hook and pull through. Yarn over and pull through again. This should secure your fringe in the stitch. Pull a little tight. Repeat 19 more times on this side of the mug rug.

Second side finished with fringe pieces. Cut the fringe pieces with sharp scissors so that the fringe is all the same length.
