WHO IS @BYCREATIVESTATE?
That would be me! My name is Jenna, and I’m an avid crafter with over 5 years of crochet experience. I specialize in beginner crochet projects, easy-to-follow patterns, and helping others feel confident picking up a crochet hook for the first time! I wanted to create an area where beginners can feel confident with making their first crochet project.
The name by Creative State was formed when I had to put together a project in high school about a personal brand. I wanted a name that could encompass multiple crafts and interests of mine. by Creative State includes crocheting but also my other hobbies; sewing, knitting, cooking, upcycling, etc.

How I Learned to Crochet
My creative journey didn’t start with crochet, but it quickly became my favorite craft along the way. Over the years, I’ve explored just about everything—from weaving potholders and drawing to sewing and making colorful loom bracelets. My family would probably say I’ve tried every craft out there… and honestly, they might be right!
In COVID, when we were all stuck at home, I decided I would watch a video on how to crochet. Ever since, it completely changed my creative path. What started as a hobby turned into a passion for creating items I can wear, gift and display and say “Yeah, I made it!”
I graduated from Indiana University in May 2025, and during my time there, I started a crochet club with friends to bring together crocheters of all skill levels. That experience opened my eyes to how many people want to learn how to crochet, but don’t know where to start.
Today, I love sharing tips, tutorials, and inspiration with beginner crocheters, helping new crafters learn the basics. But you won’t only see me crochet. I like to dabble in knitting and sewing too!
